Bujji & Bhairava – A Must Watch Before Kalki 2898 AD?

Bujji & Bhairava is a short series set in the world of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. Kalki is one of the most ambitious movies to come out of the Indian Film Industry.

The world is based on the Hindu Mythology around the concept of the final incarnation of Lord Vishnu to end evil once and for all. I am so hyped for the movie and have high hopes for it.

Kalki 2898 AD Bujji & Bhairava

When the stakes are so high, and the world-building is intended to be at a huge scale it is important to set the world pieces and marketing perfectly.

A recent movie Salaar with the same actor Prabhaas had tremendous potential for world-building outside of the movie but lost the opportunity.

The team of Kalki did not make the same mistake. The Prime Series Bujji & Bhairava(B&B) is a great attempt at the same.

Bujji & Bhairava – Story

The show is set in the dystopian Kashi in the year 2896 AD, 2 years before the events of the main film. Kashi is the last city on Earth where like any dystopian city the Units(currency) is hard to come by. The story introduces the protagonist Bhairava as a bounty hunter with a dream of earning enough to reach Complex, the city where the rich live.

The series also introduces the origin of Bujji, a mini robot built in the complex but due to certain events shown in the series gets lost, and scrapped.

The story building for the short 20-minute episodes is good enough to highlight the basic premise before we watch the movie. The relationship between Bujji & Bhairava was well crafted and seems to be an important plot point in the final movie.

Bujji is cocky and Bhairav is a typical rogue, good at heart, but an underdog in the world of bounty hunting. The two episodes highlight how Bujji makes his way out of the scrapyard to being the amazing ride for Bhairava the bounty hunter.

Bujji & Bhairava – Animation

The animation is not next level, but gets the job done. I would equate it to early Ratchet & Clank PlayStation 4 graphics. The characters are well-animated, but the quality is not consistent.

With limited resources and production value, the series does get the job done and I am not complaining.

Bujji & Bhairava – A Must Watch?

The series does introduce you to the world of Kalki and I think it is worth a watch before you go for the movie. Knowing some basics about the world is a plus.

This is a 5 part series, with only episodes 1 & 2 being out. The future episode might be held on to avoid giving out any spoilers.

The movie releases today, and I am going to watch this movie tonight. Make sure to subscribe to be notified when I post the review. That will also clarify whether the series is a must-watch, or if the movie is self-sufficient to explain the set pieces.

Over all Kalki 2898 AD has the potential to be the Star Wars from India. Check out the movie trailer below, and let me know what you think.

Are you going to watch it?

Are you excited about the movie, or do you believe it will be another cheap rehash of Ideas from Hollywood?
